About Christopher Scott
Today’s episode of Listening to Literature honors the life and writing of Christopher Scott. Many people throughout the Savannah community knew Christopher, but he was a presence in other parts of the East Coast, all the way to the West Coast, and, of course, across the pond in the United Kingdom where he was from.
Born in Kent in 1930, he attended the Royal Military College Sandhurst and was a pilot in the British Army shortly after World War II. For most of his working life, he was a Resident Land Agent overseeing the homes of the British aristocracy, including for the Duke of Wellington. He continued this work in the United States, when he moved to Virginia in 1986 to run the home of President James Madison.
Known also as a writer and a mentor, Christopher authored several books during his lifetime, including his memoirs, which is titled Walking the Boundaries: Agent to the Aristocracy, and the suspense novel Choke Point. He also was the president of the Savannah Authors Workshop (SAW).
He lived in Savannah for nearly two decades, with his wife, Dr. June Hopkins, and he volunteered with the Savannah Center for the Blind and Low Vision.
Christopher Scott died on Sunday, January 28, 2018, at the age of 87.
