Opa Tsupa, who normally reside in France, take us to Bucharest to start the show. The city is well-beloved of gypsy musicians, though it might be a little nippy in the wintertime. Mike Oldfield has the answer for that – his piece is called Hibernaculum, a place where you can go dormant for the winter. Sounds like a great idea. Arno Elias is new to me, with a piece for guitar and orchestra called Corazon, the heart. I also have a cut from Art Garfunkel’s first solo album, Blue Metheny (Blue, not Pat), Yiruma, and the Piano Guys.
Arno Elias and Blue Metheny came to my attention through the Buddha Bar recordings. The Buddha Bar is a chic night spot and hotel in Paris – the proprietors encourage music to suit their surroundings, and started to record the music that made the establishment a prime place to be. It’s been described as ethno-chillout, and the music frequently lives up to that billing.
