Willie Jackson is a native son of Savannah, GA; the youngest of the 6 children born to the late, great Reverend Jackson and, his wife, Annie Pearl originally from Millen Georgia. Willie’s early years in church had him well-acquainted with music as vital to the human experience; he often found himself playing drums, singing in choirs, raising hymns and providing whatever music was necessary – whether or not he had the training! Willie has always been a songwriter in his free time while working to support his family. A tragic accident in 2009 ended his previous career and left him differently abled. Willie found himself with an above-the-knee amputation, and though he had spent his life until that point as an active athletic man, he saw this life-changing event as an opportunity to reinvent himself rather than sit out on life. He began to write in earnest and started learning bass guitar.
Willie’s original music combines his clever lyrics with rhythms of South Georgia’straditional soul stirring blues. He can be heard at various venues in the Coastal Empire; sometimes with a three-piece group while other times he has 4 or 5 musicians accompany his powerful blues vocals. He has entertained on the stage at the beautifully refurbished Tybee Post Theater, was a featured artist at the 2019 Piccolo Spoleto Festival as well as at the 22nd Carolina Downhome Blues Festival and opened for Mac Arnold, former bass player for the legendary Muddy Waters and accomplished blues musician in his own right, at the Stage on Bay.
Willie is currently in the studio working on a full-length CD of original blues music. His original “I’m Your Landlord” won him two awards at the 2019 Indie Music ChannelAwards (@ Clive Davis Arena at the Grammy Museum in L.A.) for both Best Blues Song and Best Blues Song Writer! This award-winning song, which humorously narrates the behaviors of a shady landlord, exemplifies rocking traditional blues sounds and will be included on his new CD expected to be released soon. Currently, he has an EP available featuring six original songs which pair elements of traditional blues with musings on contemporary life and living. Willie enjoys
