Leopold’s Ice Cream: A Century of Tasty Memories
Melanie Bowden Simón
Joining Leigh and P. T. this week is Melanie Bowden Simón, author of Leopold’s Ice Cream: A Century of Tasty Memories. Some know Leopold’s as a Savannah staple, serving up ice cream in the heart of our historic city. Others know its Hollywood link, through Savannah-born Stratton Leopold who served as vice president of production for Paramount Pictures. But Leopold’s has a foot both in Savannah’s yesterday and today. With a foreword by President Jimmy Carter, the book recounts the life and times of the Leopold brothers and their family between 1901 and 2019. Simón, a communications manager on the Georgia Southern University Armstrong campus, was recently named Best Writer/Author in Savannah by Savannah Magazine and also is the author of La Americana: A Memoir.
