Navigating Moldova’s Past and Present
A conversation with Dr. Diana Botnaru
Home to approximately four million people, the Republic of Moldova has a European lineage and a complex history. In 1991, following a national movement to reclaim its sovereignty, it gained independence from the Soviet Union and has faced political and economic changes and challenges since. Dr. Diana Botnaru, an M.D. and professor of Human Anatomy and Physiology at Georgia Southern University, was actively involved in those efforts in the 1980s and ’90s, and she joins Leigh this week to discuss growing up in Moldova under the Soviet system and her life as an immigrant in the United States.
