Three decades ago, a vocal competition began in Savannah that showcased female African American singers and the lineage of African American music unique to the South and the United States. Today, the American Traditions Vocal Competition continues to honor these roots, while expanding its commitment to diversity through featuring performers from all backgrounds, abilities, genders, and ages. This week, Leigh speaks with board members Tricia Guggenheim and Danny Cohen about the ATC’s history, future, and upcoming competition this February.
