The end of Roe has come, as the Supreme Court wraps up an unprecedented session by overturning what has been described (even by some who are sitting justices) as “precedent on precedent.” Not much of Justice Alito’s draft opinion in the Dobbs case has changed since its leak: The current Court has written the demise of Roe and Casey — and with it fundamentally altered American society and women’s lives. This week, on the last day where Roe stands, Leigh examines the text of the 1973 case.
