Travels With Myself and Another
Martha Gellhorn
In early 1941, a few months after their marriage, the writer Martha Gellhorn spent a sort of honeymoon with Ernest Hemingway by going to China, some five years after the start of the Sino-Japanese War. Gellhorn intensely wanted to make the journey — Hemingway was reluctant. Her account of the trip was published in the 1970s as part of her book Travels With Myself and Another … what they found and how they reacted is by turns sad, thoughtful, and hilarious. This week, Leigh, P. T., and Dr. C discuss the “vegetarian” tigers and other personalities they encountered along the way.
