The Turtle and the Moon
Kodac Harrison
He’s been called “a Southern Tom Waits or a rural Leonard Cohen” … as well as “one of the southeast’s musical [and artistic] treasures.” Poet, musician, and abstract painter Kodac Harrison grew up in Jackson, Georgia, but he is known in Atlanta, in the southeast, and all the way to the California coast as well as Europe as an artist. He also chaired Poetry Atlanta for a dozen years and founded in 2001 (as well as hosted for more than 15 years) the award-winning Java Monkey Speaks. As ArtsXchange has noted, “For nearly two decades Kodac Harrison took a small neighborhood coffee shop and turned it into a literary powerhouse across the South … every Sunday night.” He joins Leigh this week to talk about his original music and spoken word poetry and his roots in the Macon–Atlanta region.
