Two Deaths and Tolstoy
Leo Tolstoy
Leo Tolstoy wrote about life in many variations and also the variations in death. Prince Andrei in War and Peace and Ivan Ilych in The Death of Ivan Ilych lived very different lives and when brought low, traveled different paths to the final destination. Tolstoy himself was thwarted in his own plans at the end of life. This week, Leigh, P. T., and Dr. C compare those experiences and other literary endings, including “Murmurings in a Field Hospital” by Carl Sandburg and “Death Be Not Proud” by John Donne.
