More than 500 years ago, Christopher Columbus “discovered” the Americas. Thus began the age of settler colonialism and conquest of the Americas. Or as Bob Dylan so eloquently wrote (and sang):
Oh, the history books tell it, they tell it so well
The cavalries charged, the Indians fell
The calvaries charged, the Indians died
Oh, the country was young, with God on its side
The USA now 248 years old, and it is time (past time) to dispel the myths -that the indigenous were not savages unfit to own land but rather more than 600 people living from sea to shining sea; that the settlers didn’t just came to this land of the Americas for religious freedom but also for take land and resources, such as gold and silver. So many myths to dispel as we find truth.
Tune in next week as we talk about capitalism and how it has turned our rights to food, housing, education, healthcare and so much more into commodities for purchase.
