On Monday, November 11 Armistice Day is celebrated around the world with a moment of silence at 11 am. This day (11) on this month (11) at this time (11) marks the WWI armistice when fighting ended and peace was declared. The USA has renamed his day as Veterans Day. VoR stands with Veterans For Peace to reclaim Armistice Day (Armistice Day | Veterans For Peace).
In 1961, President Eisenhower warned of the growing power of the military industrial complex. Instead of heeding that warning, the USA grew the MIC as it built military bases and sponsored wars around the world for the next 63 years. Veterans of all USA wars often face both physical and mental challenges; many carry their trauma and moral injury around their entire lives or opt out of life at the rate of at least 22 veterans per day.
We put on our thinking caps to ask: Who is driving this military madness? Is it the MIC or are their other drives? We identified that in addition to the MIC, these are other drivers: bankers; large corporations, including those that supply the military with food, fuel, clothing, etc; high tech and AI.
We then asked: How do we break this cycle of endless war and physically injured and traumatized veterans? We first stated that war must be made unprofitable such as cost only contracts, requiring business decisions that benefit people, campaign financing that enables war beneficiaries to influence elected officials, and learning our true history to dispel the myth of USA exceptionalism.
