Christmas 2024

“Well, That’s Show Biz!”

12-22-2024

  • You are listening to [Station ID].

  • Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and each week I bring you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.

  • Christmas is in four days but we are celebrating Christmas today with Christmas songs from Broadway, Movies, and Television.

  • We are going to start off with the classic pre-Christmas song “We Need a Little Christmas” from the classic Jerry Herman musical Mame. Next, we will hear “Sparklejollytwinklejingley” from the Broadway musical Elf. The wistful “Hard Candy Christmas” comes at the end of The Best Little Whoredouse In Texas. I usually play the Dolly Parton version from the movie but today I’ll be playing the original Broadway version. And we will conclude this set with “A New Deal for Christmas” from Annie.  Here’s Angela Lansbury with “We Need a Little Christmas” from Mame.

  • You just heard the Christmas themed songs “We Need a Little Christmas” from Mame, “Sparklejollytwinklejingley” from Elf, “Hard Candy Christmas” from The Best Little Whoredouse In Texas, and The Best Little Whoredouse In Texas.

  • We are playing Christmas songs today. The musical Billy Elliot is about a boy from a poor working class family in 1980s England who is obsessed with dancing. His father’s mine worker’s family goes on strike which hinders Billy’s dreams of becoming a dancer. We are going to hear the song “Merry Christmas Maggie Thatcher”. Thatcher was the British Prime Minister at the time. From there we will hear “Christmas is My Favorite Time of Year” from the musical Catch Me If You Can. We will follow that with Judy Garland singing the classic song “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” from the movie Meet Me In St. Louis. Then we will hear Ralphie singing about his dream Christmas gift, the “Red Ryder Carbine Action BB Gun” from A Christmas Story Live!. Closing out this set, Jerry Herman was the composer for the TV movie, Mrs Santa Claus starring Angela Lansbury. We will hear Charles Durning, as Santa, and Angela Lansbury, as Mrs. Claus, singing “The Best Christmas of All”. Here’s “Merry Christmas Maggie Thatcher” from Billy Elliot.

  • This is our Christmas show as Christmas Eve is Tuesday night.

  • The song “Turkey Lurkey Time” was added to the Burt Bacharach show Promises, Promises as the show needed a kick to send the audience out for intermission. The choreographer, Michael Bennett, created the remarkable head bouncing dance that made the song a hit. It also caused the dancers to have to go to many chiropractic appointments during the weeks of the show and I also read somewhere, I may be wrong, that they were also throwing up in the wings. After that, we will hear “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” from the animated film Frozen. Then, I was supposed to be in the music video of my music partner’s winter song “Two Sets of Footprints” but I had a family situation to deal with. Then we will conclude this set with Bing Crosby singing “White Christmas” from the film Holiday Inn in which the song originated.  Here’s “Turkey Lurkey Time” from Promises, Promises.

  • We are listening to Christmas songs today and you just heard “Turkey Lurkey Time” from Promises, Promises, “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” from the animated film Frozen, “Two Sets of Footprints” by my musical partner Danny Adlerman, and “White Christmas” from the film Holiday Inn.

  • For our concluding set for Christmas 2024, we are going to go to classic children’s television. First we are going to hear Boris Karloff narrating the conclusion to Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Then we will hear “Christmas Time Is Here” from my favorite children’s Christmas special A Charlie Brown Christmas. And we will end with Burl Ives and “A Holly Jolly Christmas” from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Here’s “Welcome Christmas” and “Finale” from The Grinch.

  • We concluded our Christmas 2024 show with “Welcome Christmas” and “Finale” from Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas, “Christmas Time Is Here” from A Charlie Brown Christmas, and “A Holly Jolly Christmas” from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.
