August 30, 2019, 12;06 – 1:00 pm: Queen Victoria died in 1901, but the values of the Victorian era were coming under some critical scrutiny even before her death. One of the most popular critics was George Bernard Shaw. An Irish critic, playwright and (later) recluse, Shaw constructed plays that questioned what everyone else knew was true. He explored, among other things, feminism, the nature of good and evil, war, and the relationship between men and women. Shaw was also a social commentator, who picked his way through the contending philosophies of the early 20th Century with mixed results.
