Sat. 1 pm – George Friderich Handel “Agrippina” on the Metropolitan Opera matinee. WRUU – 107.5 is Savannah’s home now for this radio tradition that goes back to 1931. 02/29/2020.
Agrippina was originally set in Rome, late in the reign of the Emperor Claudius (d. 54 CE), a time of great struggles for the throne and all the power and splendor associated with imperial Roman power. Historical and legendary tales of the title character have long been a lurid source of scandalous reportage and speculation. Sir David McVicar’s staging updates the action to the current day: an era in which sly posturing and questionable tactics continue to drive political discourse.
