Some jazz classics that rocked the pop charts this week, from Cannonball Adderley and Chuck Mangione. Also FLOW, Eric Bikales, Wim Mertens, and others.
Cannonball Adderley was a well-established figure in jazz for many years when he had Joe Zawinul, the Austrian keyboardist join his group. Cannonball had played with Miles Davis and led his own groups for many years, and Zawinul was just starting a distinguished career with groups like Weather Report.
Wim Mertens is a Belgian Flemish composer who brings a fresh approach to music. He’s a countertenor singer himself, and is the vocalist for many of his more avant garde compositions. His ensemble pieces, like the one tonight, are more accessible but retain some of the experimentation.
P. T. Bridgeport will also report any thoughts he’s had since the last show. Since it’s P.T., no guarantees.
