This week on Contemporary Classics we are celebrating the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival which is taking place now in the small town of Huddersfield, England, Great Britain. We have an interview with Graham McKenzie, the Executive Director of the festival with many great stories about the festival. Think of the image of John Cage, Olivier Messiaen and Pierre Boulez having a pizza together in a Pizza Hut. We will also have recordings of works that will be performed at the festival including Terry Riley’s “Keyboard Studies” performed by Sarah Cahill who will be performing it at Huddersfield; Lou Harrison’s “A Summerfield Set”; and PIANO.NET [version 2] by Alexander Schubert in a version heard last May but is a work that changes right up to the performance as it can be modified online by any registered composer. It is a show that should not be missed. Contemporary Classics is Tuesday from 8-10 pm ET on WRUU Savannah 107.5 FM and streaming a wruu.org.
